All dogs require their own certain amount of exercise. In the city, we the owners just need to make more of an effort.

It is the question we ask ourselves everyday one way or another. How many times and for how long should I take my dog out for? My personal answer to that question is... Every dog should go out a minimum of four times a day. I know first hand that a tired dog is a good dog. I also know that the longer the walk, the stronger the bond becomes. I walk Shamus 4 times a day, and a full walk somewhere in between. A full walk to me is for a substantive amount of time. Bonding time! Your dog won't be as much of an issue to your neighbors, in an apartment building, if if he or she is sleeping/ relaxing because they are tired from their daily exercise.

Full walk length. Walk at whatever pace your dog is safe and comfortable with. Also bring a bottle of water and tupperware container so that you can keep your loved one hydrated on the walk.

For dogs up to 25 - 30 lb, 30 - 45 minutes is recommended. Dogs that are 30+ lbs are recommended to be out 45 minutes - 2 hours at a time.

Another great thing you can do for your dog if you do not already is to take them to the dog park once a week. I recommend once a week due to the amount of dogs inside and the increasing risk of your dog getting a cold or eye/ ear infection.
